My Apologies

Here it is almost a month since I have last written. My most sincere apologies. I made a New Year's resolution that I was going to do a better job of keeping up with posting, but a total failure I am. I've just had so many other issues to deal with that this has kind of taken a back burner - so sorry.

I am making progress, slow but sure. Not fast enough as far as I'm concerned. I've determined that I'm far too independent and just don't deal well with being "incapable" and having to ask for help. I walk without a cane now for the most part, but take it with me when I got out due to the ice and snow and my feeling of insecurity. I KNOW I'm getting better though, as the other day I actually left my cane in the cart at Walmart when I checked out and loaded my bags into the back of my car.

My biggest issue is how stiff I am in the mornings when I first get going. It takes a good hour of coffe and conversation with Ole before I can get somewhat comfortable with moving about and getting into my daily chores. Everyone keeps telling me that it's going to get better, but it's a slow process and I'm not a patient person. I need to be MOBILE by spring/summer and at this rate it's not going to happen!!!!

Anyway, enough complaining.

I miss the fact that we're not traveling this winter. I read all the entries of my friends who ARE traveling and I'm so jealous. Instead I'm stuck here in 83 feet of snow and ugly temperatures. But I need to remember to be thankful that it could be worse!!!! (Did you detect a note of sarcasm there? Huh? Did you? )

As a result of everything, life's been pretty boring and I don't have a lot to talk about. Thus the lack of entries.

I have managed to get Ole moving on some home improvement projects though. We're removing the carpet in our living room/dining room and replacing it with laminate flooring and area rugs.

You see, I have this old cat, Simon, 18 years old, who has this proficiency for puking all the time. And of course, a pet who has to puke NEVER pukes on a surface where it's easy to clean up - they always go into the room that has carpet (plush carpet no less) to unload and then you're left cleaning it up. Don't get me wrong, I love Simon dearly. How could you not love a cat that you've had for 18 years. But I sure could do without his upchucking. So we've decided to replace the plush carpet with laminate flooring and area rugs. I keep telling Ole I'm trying to simplify my life. I think he's finally catching on.

Ole has always been against this plan until recently. I think he feels sorry for me not being able to do the things I've always done before. (playing all the cards I have in hand, right?) Either that. or Ole has to clean up the puke because I just can't bend over that far to clean it up (snicker).

Anyway, we've got a lot of work ahead of us removing the carpet and getting everything in line for the remodel. I'm also pulling all the carpet up from the stairway (open staircase to the basement) and having laminate flooring put down on that.

Believe me, Ole will be very tired of his Honey Do List before winter is over. That's what he gets when his wife gets a new hip and starts to feel more ambitious!! (I really do love this man, you know!!)

So, enough of the ramblings and rantings of an insane person. Love you all and thanks for reading. And I really am going to try to be better about making entries on a regular basis.

Love, Lena

Lena, glad the hip is getting better. Maybe by spring, you'll have more of the kinks worked out.

I have hardwood in my living room and hall. I love it in the summertime, but hate it in the winter. I don't know which is the coldest--hardwood or tile.

I'm so glad you're doing a bit better. I can only imagine how hard it is for you to take slow steps to your recovery. I always visualize you as this little spinning tornado of activity. Take care!

Glad to hear you're getting around better. I too am failing at posting more frequently. I used to make it a priority...now so many more things are using up my time. My little Abby used to puke all the time too and once she discovered that is was extra hard to get puke out of a braided rug she decided that is exactly where she had to puke. I miss her (she was put down in August due to a stroke) but I don't miss the puke or the balls of floating cat hair.

So glad to hear you're feeling better and better. That a tough row to hoe, having to let everyone do things for you, when you're used to doing for them.

I love the idea of new floors, but the idea of all the work they entail? Yuck. We've replaced floors a couple times. I'm sure it will be beautiful, though, and it sounds like Ole is wonderful help!

Sorry to hear you're feeling a little down, Lena (is that short for Geoline? the name of my great-aunt, who was Norwegian and from the northern states), and I hope you're soon back in your usual action.

Should also mention that laminate floor shows every sockprint, every footprint, from the moment it's freshly washed and forevermore! I have yet to try the recommended cleaner on my new laminate flooring, which is quite lovely but always looks dirty, darnit.

Lena, I think you sound like you need a summer vacation. There is more to life than bitching about a person over the net. It's very tedious and utterly boring...

Dear Sweet Lena,

I too am conintually amazed at the things idiots will leave as a comment. They're so stupid they can't spell their own name, so must leave the comment as Anonymous.

I try to remind myself that they must be very unhappy in order feel the need to spread bile everywhere they go.

Then I remember that is just a load of BS.

The fact is, they are just mean. I've given myself the gift of not dealing with mean people anymore. Period, end of conversation. When someone tries to share their meanness with me, I just walk away. I'm usually muttering "LOSER" under my breath as I walk away. ;o)

I have ALWAYS enjoyed your blog. I've missed you terribly this winter!

Please don't edit your writing due to these people. There are many, many of us who love and care about you. We're the ones you should write to/for. The others will eventually crawl back under their rocks or find another blogger to bully.

HUGS to you and Ole!
